In the run up to the weekend's training at Castle Cove it was looking like the Musto Skiffs were going to be lucky to get on the water at any point of the weekend. But the weather gods were smiling down upon us and to most people's surprise we got out on the water both days.

A hardy group of sailors headed out on the water with coach Ian Turnbull; 6 on the Saturday and 9 sailors on the Sunday. Saturday started with 18 knots dropping to 15 as the day went on. A short windward leeward was set up giving the sailors lots of starts and mark roundings to keep them on their toes. After the video debrief the tired sailors enjoyed dinner and a few beers in Weymouth.

Sunday dawned sunny and windy. 20-22 knots with a top gust of 29 knots. With 9 sailors a longer course was set up to allow the sailors to stretch their legs a bit more! The challenging conditions made for some spectacular wipe-outs and great videos of the Musto skiffs. At full speed downwind the coach rib was struggling to keep up with the skiffs.

The main areas covered over the weekend were starting, boat handling and rig set up. The most common comment from the coach was: pull more cunningham on!

Overall it was a great weekend of windy training especially for the guys about to load their boats in the container for the Worlds in Perth.

Thanks to Castle Cove Sailing Club for allowing to use their club and Sam Barker for organising it.
