A late 00s Oxford team won the Oxford & Cambridge annual Generations Team Racing Event at Farmoor Reservoir on Saturday 11 October 2014. In this event, Oxford and Cambridge sailors from different years and decades battle it out under a legendary and mysterious handicapping system. The event came of age this year with 14 team entering, including the BUSA-winning Oxford Ladies team of the 1980s and the Cambridge Varsity Match team of 1981. A Cambridge 70s team was the runner-up, with an Oxford 90s team third.
The start of the day was inauspicious, with a flat calm prevailing. However, a wind slowly filled in and racing started under the watchful eye of the Race Officer - O&CSS Secretary Jeremy Atkins. The wind built steadily to a good strength and enabled a full programme to take place, with close and very competitive racing being the order of the day. Three flights of Fireflies were available, which enabled three round-robin leagues and a three-cornered final and petite final. There was also some additional racing for the teams who did not qualify for either final.
Many thanks to all the current Oxford sailors whose help and hard work made the event possible yet again, to Magdalene College School for their loan of a flight of Fireflys, and to Oxford SC for making their facilities available for the day – in spite of the Eric Twiname youth event looming in a week's time. A gallery of photographs is up on the O&CSS website.
