12 October 2014
On a sunny autumn afternoon with a force 3 south westerly breeze Race officer Ian Stewart set the classic Salcombe course to Blackstone then Gerston followed by a loop of the harbour.
Martin and Tom Ley led the Slow Handicap fleet, consisting mainly of junior Meeks to take a comfortable win.
Henry Bright in his Standard Laser took his second win of the Autumn Series making a clear break from the Laser of Esther McLarty and the Streaker of Clare Booth.
Peter Cook and Janet Exelby uncharacteristically slipped out of first place, as Keri and Gilli Harris made easier work of the short tacking along the Portlemouth shore. Graham and Fiona Cranford-Smith were pleased to real in the Merlin of Cook, but had to settle for third place in the Fast Handicap fleet.
Seventeen Solos made for the most competitive start, and Chris Cleaves, David Greening, Simon Dobson and Peter Hammond made the early running by the Blackstone mark, however this hard work came to little end, when the pursuing fleet closed up at Snapes Point, allowing Cleaves and Dobson to get away, pursued by Hammond and Greening who picked up the new breeze at Tosnos. This order remained to the finishing gun.
Dan Bridger and David Jayne led the Yawls all the way around the course in their Modern Yawl, with the Classic Yawl of Peter Stratton and Nigel Hannaford beating Charles Thompson and Alistair Morley on Handicap.
