At the Chipstead Sailing Club Firefly open meeting held on 7th September, local Firefly sailor Peter Lanham was presented with a special award by the National Firefly Association Chairman, Stuart Hudson.
Peter, who has been sailing Fireflies since 1964, was presented with the beautiful cut glass GJW Direct Outstanding Achievement Award for his services to the National Firefly Association and to Firefly sailing.
Peter is a former treasurer, membership secretary and sailing secretary of the association.
Over many years Peter has been the Association archivist and has also maintained the individual boat records of a class of dinghy which first came to note as the Olympic class for single handed sailing in the 1948 Olympics and which has grown in strength ever since, most notably in the use of the boat by schools and universities for team racing.
Peter has also been a main contributor of advice to Firefly sailors new and old on the NFA website forums.
