Hobie Cats will be out in force this coming weekend for the Channel Islands Hobie Cat Championships being held in St. Aubin's bay. This will be the 24th year the major event in the C.I. Hobie racing calendar has been held.
All Hobie classes will be competing including the largest class, the Hobie 16 'A' & 'B' Fleets, the powerful 18ft Hobie Tigers and Wildcats and the Junior Hobie Dragoons. As well as class trophies there are awards for Youth, Women's and Masters in the Hobie 16 event.
Organised by the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club, racing starts at 9:30am on each day. With sailing conditions looking good for the weekend and 6 qualifying races to find Champions in the various classes, the organising Committee and competitors are looking forward to an excellent and highly active two days of Championships racing. The Hobie 16 'B' Fleet has seen good growth at the entry level in the Island this year and along with entries from Guernsey will help boost the numbers on the start line where the organisers are hoping for an increased entry on last year with around 30 boats and 60 crew expected to compete in this year's Championships.
There is a registration and weigh in for all teams this Friday 29th August at the RCIYC from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. Event details and entry form can be obtained from the Yacht Club or the website www.rciycjersey.com sailing instructions are also available.
