Dart 18 European Championship at Mumbles Yacht Club - Day 3

by Ria Woffinden, MYC 21 Aug 2014 13:08 BST 18-23 August 2014

As we wake up and look out over the glassy sea praying for wind it give us time to reflect on the racing from Day 3.

Race 5

WSW winds at an average 12 knots were providing excellent sailing conditions. With everything to play for in the European championships the start line was yet again a rather hectic place to be with even the committee boat getting caught in the chaos. After 4 general recalls leading to a black flag the race got underway with 7 disqualifications, the wind remained steady throughout leading to a good clean race. This time the French boat of Herve Le Maux and Abbey Jupp were the winners

Race 6

Possibly intimidated by the black flag and disqualifications from the previous race we had the first clean start since R1. The wind stayed mainly consistent but for the second race of the day we were treated to a series of gusts at 20mph which surprised a number of the competitors and caused them to take a dip in the bay. This time the winners were Mat & Jakob Exon from Royal Yorkshire Yacht Club on Mat Finish.

So in 6 races we've had 6 different winners and with the first of the discards coming into force the championship is still wide open with Dan Norman and Jenni Donovan at the top of the leader board with a 13 point gap to 2nd place.

Welsh Wednesday was wrapped up by warming bowls of Cawl, welsh cakes a floor stomping Twmpath and spot prizes throughout the night provided by our sponsors.
