Around 40 teams, for the Miracle 40th birthday, are all set for a cracking week at Hunstanton in Norfolk. The current multi-winner of the Miracle national championship, Sam Mettam is unfortunately out of the country, leaving the championship wide open. There many new teams and new boats on the water this year, and some nice fleets developing at Broadwater, Delph and Welton; so the competition will be strong.
The championship is attended by sailors of all ages. A Junior Championship is held during the week where many of the young crews take over and boss their parents, siblings or friends around the race course.
There are prizes for Bronze, Silver and Gold fleets. Other prizes are up for grabs, such as the ton up cup, and the youngest competitor cup, not to forget the trophy everyone wants to win: a beautiful scale model of the Miracle, awarded for 16th overall.
In true British sailor fashion, I've got my eye on the weather forecast. The current forecast shows more wind earlier in the week - improving from Wednesday. Let's hope that it doesn't hold proceedings up.
