9-10 August 2014
The Lightning368 Grand Prix Series moves to Weston SC this coming weekend (9th/10th August) for two days on the salty/wobbly stuff.
The event also forms the class' 'Sea Championships' and is usually pretty well attended by Lightning helms who, on the whole, don't all get a taste of sea air and those things called 'tides'.
Featuring three back to back races per day, this event offers up a myriad of possibilities for the predominantly pond sailing Lightningistas - so a real chance of some upsets to the regular order.
Current championship leader, youngster Alexander Baxter, has recently sold his boat in order to focus on his Firefly and other classes - He'll be sadly missed but the weekend does offer up a great chance to close that gap to the top, especially as championship discards start coming to the fore.
Richard Palmer, Caroline Key and Simon Hopkins all have a brilliant chance to head to the top of the tree, with the vastly-improved Bryan Westley in prime position to capitalize on any misfortune amongst the regular front-runners.
So, two days at the seaside, camping, super club, super boats... all adding up to a super weekend then. First race on Saturday no earlier than 11am - so a fairly relaxing start to shake out the Friday night hangovers for the early arrivers then!
