After curry & prize giving last night, it was Mark & Liz Matthews who won the Allen Brothers fit-out prize. The fleets have been set out with a few notable anomalies who will no doubt be back to their top spots after further racing but this has enabled the new buddy teams format to be implemented kindly sponsored by Zhik this year with some great bits of clothing on offer at the end of the week for the lowest scoring team.

The Zhik jerseys were been modelled by their respective fleet leaders today:

  • AJ & Paula – Yellow
  • Jonny & Karen – Blue
  • Chris & Beatrice – Red
  • Jane Scutt - Pink
Day 2 dawned with a chill in the air and the threat of rain. The fleet launched bang on time, and the PRO was quickly able to set a course in a light NW wind. With Jeremy & Ryan the gate boats it was Paul Hobson & Libby Allen who fired out of the gate before anyone else and took a big lift on starboard and was then greeted by an equally nice lift on port to lead at the windward mark, following closely behind were Martin & Abi Honnor, Gez & Julie and Phil Ford & Will Allen. The majority of the fleet had been turned upside down as the wind completely shifted. The next reach saw a dying breeze and a big raft up at the leeward mark, however it still remained Chimp & Libby at the front with Team Honnor on the hunt. With the wind now changing its mind again and coming inshore from the sea, the course now became reach after reach with very little room for exchanging places. Paul & Libby went on to take their first bullet in their Nationals campaign. Honnors 2nd, Gez & Julie 3rd.

The wind was now constantly changing throughout the whole of the bay changing direction and the PRO struggled to set a course. A 2 hour postponement was on the cards as rain, wind and sun circled around.

Eventually at 3pm the final race was started, the fleet got away cleanly with a slightly more stable wind blowing from the left of Brixham. It was Pete & Jack Lawson who led out and rounded in 1st, closely followed by a group of AJ & Paula, Alice & Sharkey, Ann & Alan, Steve Graham & Alex Halliwell and Chimp & Libby. Downwind places looked to remain the same however each beat took its victims with the wind ever shifting to the right, making it difficult knowing when to tack out. The race committee did their best to adapt and changed the windward marks accordingly. On the final beat it was Pete & Jack who took the gun with AJ & Paula in 2nd and Chimp & Libby rounding out the top 3.

Nobody has won 2 races but leader at the moment is Ges Brown & Julie Moore, however Chimp & Libby and Alan & Paula are hot on their heels. Ges has assured us he will be drinking only water tonight...

Tonight's prize giving is at 21:00 and the prize tonight will be Kingfisher Ropes offering of a full re-rope and this will be a draw for the Silver fleet.

Race at 11:00am tomorrow.
