Lymington Town Sailing Club Wednesday Summer Points Series - Day 4

by Alastair Beeton 28 Jul 2014 17:16 BST 23 July 2014

Race finished in the Solent

Last Wednesday evening saw thirty-seven boats take to the water for race 4 of the Lymington Town Sailing Club Wednesday Summer Series.

As the Race Officers, Mark Barwell and Louise Johnson set the course the wind was blowing a gentle easterly. However, in the hour between setting the course and the race starting, there has been 180 degree shift meaning the breeze was from the west. The flooding tided meant that the fleets were set a course to the west of the river so that they would make it home should the wind drop.

All fleets started without incident and following the start the race officers followed the fleets down the river so that the competitors could be finished in the Solent where there was more wind. All fleets were finished at the River Gate whilst sailing rather than drifting home.

In the Fast fleet it was the RS400 of Jan and Rob Martin came 1st on corrected time followed by Keith & Julie Willis in their RS400 with Nick Simmons 3rd in his D-One.

In the Medium fleet, Stuart Watson's Blaze took line honours and first on handicap, with Richard Russell & Sylvia Weger 2nd in their Tasar and Richard Felstead in his D-Zero 3rd.

In the Slow fleet, line honours and first place on corrected time went to Liam Willis & Arran Mills in their RS Feva XL. They were closely followed by Pete Wills in 2nd and Sue Sutherland & Sarah Unsworth in 3rd both sailing Lymington River Scows.
