505 UK National Championships at Felixstowe Ferry - Day 3

by Richard Nurse 27 Jul 2014 09:48 BST 26 July 2014

Day three started with a well attend class AGM, welcoming a new committee member in Dougal Cram and the sun shone over the fleet before they went afloat on time for race 5.

The race got underway in marginal wiring conditions. First to the windward mark was the US team of Holt & Woelfe. Unfortunately for them, in their haste to go left on the run, Holt & Woelfe missed the spacer mark, having to go back, leaving Illife & Nurse to lead from Walters & Cram. Both Illife/Nurse & Walters/Cram didn't gybe straight away having to sail a greater distance letting Holt/Woelfe back through. Holt & Woelfe held to take the race win.

After a postponement race six got under way with Owens & Boarders as start pathfinder. The fleet started just before the wind shifted to the right which saw those that started early lose out briefly before the wind shifted back. It was once again a gybe set at the windward mark to the spacer mark. Hodgson & Miles took the lead and brought it home for the race win from Owen & Keith Boarders in 2nd and Smith & Needham in 3rd.

Going into the last day Smith & Needham hold onto first place from Holt & Woelfe by a single point.
