After Alcatrazes Race, a course of 46 nm which was the longest of the event, the five boats that are participating in the Ilhabela Sailing Week completed four more races. Today they couldn't sail due to lack of wind.
On Tuesday, second day of racing, it was an Ilhabela's typical day. The boats completed two windward – leeward courses with a 10-12 knots NE wind, they sailed very close and the positions changed continuously. Magia V Energisa, property of the multiple Olympic medalist Torben Grael, won the first race of the day but finished last position in the last one, while Pajero Mitsubishi ended third position in the first race and achieved a first place in the last course.
"On Wednesday races were similar, we set off with less wind but then it increased from the NE. We completed two races with a 10-12 knots wind and we sailed tight too. Luckily we were able to take the lead after being OCS. We had a little bit of luck, we managed to reach the first mark in first position and we were the first to cross the finish line. The second race was a struggle against Carioca, but we could win again", said Gonzalo Ramos Vertiz, Pajero Mitsubishi's spinnaker and Genoa trimmer. The boat property of Eduardo de Souza Ramos adds three victories and places top position overall.
Behind Pajero Mitsubishi is Roberto Martin's Carioca, which team was created on the basis of the crew that competed in the Soto 40 Worlds that were held last year in Talcahuano. "We are forming a team and thinking in the World Championship that will be held next year in Brazil. We have Pablo Defazio in navigation and Maciel Cicchetti as spinnaker and genoa trimmer. We are strong but we need rhythm. We are getting to know each other during the races. On Wednesday we made a better performance and we were able to fight against Pajero and Crioula, teams with trained crews", explained André Mirsky, Carioca's skipper. He also added: "We don't have regularity yet, we have ups and downs. We have better chances in long distances courses, like Alcatrazes, where we achieved a victory with an excellent advantage from the second boat".
The wind didn't appear today in Ilhabela and the Race Committee decided to cancel the races of the day. The competition will continue this Friday at 10 am.
The Ilhabela Sailing Week will come to its end on Saturday. Besides the Soto 40, there are 125 boats competing in RGS (51), HPE (22), Star (18), ORC (16), IRC (9), C30 (7) and Classic boats (2).
