29erXX class extends grants to female 29er teams

Seven top female 29er skiff teams representing 5 nations received grants to assist their participation in the upcoming 29er World Championship. The 29erXX Class was able to grant $500 and $1,000 grants, totalling $6,500.
"We would like to use the 29erXX Class funds to continue the goal that we set out to achieve. Our goal is to bring women's skiff sailing to the forefront through increased participation and helping young women to develop their skills to world-class levels" said Jen Morgan-Glass, 29erXX Class President.
"We feel we can empower young women in their sailing careers by providing grants to help them attend major championships. The 29er class is the global development class for skiff sailors, and has a tradition of being the proving ground for future Olympians. Thus the 29er fleet was a logical choice as we looked to support future champions."
The 29erXX solicited grant requests through the 29er Class and received many responses. The class hopes to continue to distribute grant assistance for a few more years.
This year's grants will enable these teams to attend the 2014 29er Worlds, to be held in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, July 26-August 2. Currently there are 102 entrants represented by 14 nations and 18 all-female teams. To follow these teams during competition, go to: www.29erworlds.org
