Magic Marine Marblehead Worlds at Gouda, The Netherlands - Day 2

by UKMClass 8 Jul 2014 22:41 BST 5-11 July 2014

Well the rain arrived and kept us company for the entire day 2 of racing at the Marblehead Worlds in Gouda. The predicted 10-19 knots did not appear at water level despite the fast moving low clouds above and led to another day of offshore gusting A rig conditions where start placement and second beat management were crucial.

Our GBR skippers largely felt at home in the conditions winning 3 from 4 A fleet races and generally improving their positions from Day 1. Now with 8 races on the scorecard after 1 discard, Brad Gibson has has a slight gap to Graham Bantock in 2nd, with Ante Kovacevic of Croatia close back in third.

Big movers of the day go to Peter Stollery who jumped into the top 5 with some masterful sailing, John Taylor who went C,B,A to take a big chunk off his scorecard and Phil Holliday who reached a radio sailing career best result of working his way from E to D fleet, only to narrowly miss promotion into C fleet. The boys are working hard in what could be best described as tough conditions for racing.

GBR Skippers Results after Day 2:

1st Brad Gibson
2nd Graham Bantock
5th Peter Stollery
18th Darin Ballington
23rd John Shorrock
25th John Smith
27th Tony Guerrier
28th John Taylor
29th Roger Stollery
36th Dereck Priestley
37th Roy Stevens
48th John Cleave
62th Phil Holliday
66th Terry Rensch

Racing resumes with B fleet from 10am tomorrow with B fleet, then A to complete 9 full races. We are aware the official twitter account is updating scores as well as the Magic Marine Marblehead Worlds website so keep an eye on the days ahead.
