The Victory Class Association is delighted to announce that Z50, owned by Clive Cokayne is the overall winner of the Victory class at the Portsmouth Regatta held to celebrate the Class' 80th anniversary.
With the 20 Victorys having taken part, the racing has been close and competitive with 5 boats still in the frame for the overall win at the start of the second day of racing.
For the first time ever this Saturday 5th July the Victories will race around the Isle of Wight. Hopefully the weather gods will shine brightly!
About the Victory Class
The Victory class was formed in 1934 and is celebrating 80 years of competitive sailing this year. The class sails from Portsmouth and races Tuesday and Thursday nights and on Saturday afternoon. The majority of boats were built from wood at local boat builders by apprentices, in 2007 the class invested heavily in GRP to ensure survival and also ease of maintenance.
Since 2007 there have been 7 GRP boats launched cumulating in Z80 for the anniversary year at Cowes Week.
Victorys are distinctive in that they have all black hulls and the waterline reflects which club you are a member of. The red stripe is Portsmouth sailing club, the Green is the Royal Albert and Naval Yacht club and the Blue is Locks sailing club. The class has been racing at Cowes since 1934 and the winner of Cowes week has a Gold Z on her mainsail as recognition of their success.
