On Saturday, Hollowell Sailing Club once again proudly hosted the Seavets Windsurfing Open meeting. The club has been supporting this unique event since the Association was first formed in 1984. Seavets promotes an active life in middle age and supports the charity Research into Ageing.
The Seavets racing series events are held on inland waters across the country, starting in April and carrying through the summer until the end of September. Raceboard fleet is divided into classes by age - Seniors (under 50), Veterans (50 - 59), Supervets (60 - 70) and Megavets (over 70).
The Hollowell event which was well attended and took place in relatively light winds, consisted of four races throughout the Saturday morning.
Hollowell's Mike Playle, who is also known for his relaxed sailing style in stormy weather, won all 4 races in the Senior Vets class and overall. Visitors Tony Chandler and Julian Barnes picked up the top Megavets place and Seniors place respectively.
There was also recognition for Hollowell's Wendy Middleton-Smith who picked the Senior Ladies catergory.
Nicola Wilkinson, Hollowell's Commodore, made the presentations among a crowd of Hollowell sailors who had turned out to watch this event and no doubt put a few of the younger members to shame.
Tony Chandler thanked the club for hosting the event and commented that the wind had favoured Mike Playle on his home waters.
