Moore Blatch Royal Lymington Yacht Club Thursday Night Series - Day 8

by Hannah Neve 24 Jun 2014 11:27 BST 19 June 2014

Sun, sailing and soccer formed the order of the day for the racing crowd at RLymYC for the penultimate race of the Moore Blatch Thursday Night Early Series.

In Class 3 Lymington Handicap the race result was all about the order in which boats could struggle over the line tacking into a moderate breeze before heading for an easier current near the shore followed by a beat up to Pylewell Lake, a fast downwind leg to a mark off Salterns and then a beat back to the finish. Pathogem coped with the start best and went on to record another regulation win followed by Tokoloshe, Breath of Spring and Unity.

With over 20 boats converging on the favoured end of the LH2 Class start several boats were caught OCS in the battle to find a clear lane inshore. Andy Ash-Vie's 6m Wildcat 11 thundered off in the stunning evening conditions, with her large sailplan causing a total eclipse of the wind as she rolled the Wadhams' RS Elite Kiss on the opening beat. Wildcat nearly got caught too low on the cross tide fetch to mark 2, but she rounded ahead and sailed away down wind and tide to win on the water and on handicap. Kiss pulled through to second on both counts but the next boats to finish, Gemstone and High Spirit were both OCS, giving 3rd place on handicap to Jungle.

In IRC Class 1, with everyone fighting for the favoured platform end of the line, Edith was early and after touching the inner distance mark was forced to take a penalty turn. Boomerang had a good start and led the fleet towards an inflatable buoy set inshore from Folkboats UK. They led till the end with Jin &Tonic and Jumbuck both posting their first podium positions of 2nd and 3rd respectively.
