A flat calm and drizzly rain greeted only three travellers to Trimpley for the Midland Bell GP14 Open on 15th June. So it was a joint decision with five Trimpley helms to postpone the first race by an hour by which time it stopped raining and a slight breeze enabled a race of sorts to get underway.
Given the notorious shifts and challenging conditions, Rich Bennett with crew Emily Cole Evans from Staunton Harrold Sailing club got clean away for an easy victory. Pete Jacques with Pete Tate (Chase SC) came in second not far in front of the first Trimpley boat Phil Quarry with eight year old son, Daniel.
The second race was just as challenging reversing the finishing positions. The tie required a short third race to determine a winner and the two Petes managed to develop a good lead at the shortened mark, but only held onto their lead by one foot in front of Rich and Emily at the line.
Exciting snail racing by clever snails!
Overall Results:
1st Pete Jacques / Pete Tate (Chase SC)
2nd Rich Bennett / Emily Cole-Evans (Staunton Harold)
3rd Phil Quarry / Daniel Quarry (Trimpley)
4th Ralph Webb / Alice Webb (Trimpley)
