RC Laser TT at Chichester Yacht Club

Saturday saw the RC Laser fleet out in force with the holding of a National TT event being held at CYC for the second year.

With 7 visitors and 9 club sailors taking part a fleet of 16 Lasers on the water adjacent to the CYC club house it had the makings of a good days sailing. As we waited for the tide to creep in the wind fell off and the first race was a very slow affair with the visitors taking 1st and 2nd and with Tony Reader taking 3rd.

The wind had now shifted by 180 degrees and a rethink of the course was needed to make the best of the variable wind conditions. The next two races saw the same winner – Adrian Tomlinson (Ramsgate) – which held him in good stead for the overall result.

The battle for the runner up spot was a closely fought battle between the club sailors, with Hugh Whitehead, Chris Creak (Itchenor SC) each managing a win and Adrian Rowe, Mark Harper and Alan Porter getting in to the top three over the seven race series; it was Adrian who managed to edge into the runner up spot.

Top 'Doh!' moment of the day was when Adrian T went one step too far; going from ankle depth to....well, see the picture.

A vote of thanks was given by the winning helm to CYC for organising the event and the warm welcome they had received and looked forward to the event next year, which has become a firm fixture in the calendar of National RC Laser Racing.

Course allows boats to be closer than normal and with more possible infringements The Race Team using the wind direction of SE and 8 knots speed set a narrow course with a wing mark to form the triangle for the triangle sausage format. This effectively gave two downwind legs, a reach along the leeward end of the course and two beats. Posted on 27 Feb
