Bigamist crowned champion
The last day of this Semaine de Porquerolles provided a race area calmer than the one we had the previous day, which allowed the completion of the ninth and tenth races.
The first race of the day started at 12:03 pm and Luis Martín Cabiedes' Noticia IV penalized itself, reason why it was relegated to the last positions. In contrast, Hendrik Brandis took the lead and decided to keep it until the end of the course.
Pedro Mendonça's Bigamist ended 2nd place while Noticia IV finally managed to cross the finish line in third position.
The second race of the day started at 1:10 pm in the same conditions and race area. The boat skippered by Pichu Torcida was the first to complete the course, followed by the solid leader of the championship, the Portuguese Bigamist. The Soto 40 Uon arrived after them with José Manuel Caldeira at the helm, a sailor who doesn't like to be the new of the Class and managed to achieve its sixth podium in this race.
In the equator of the championship we all know that the boat to defeat is once again Bigamist, who has already taken a comfortable advantage. This points and its attendance to every race of the calendar places Pedro Mendonça's boat in a secured position to repeat its victory in the European championship.
After Bigamist we find the German Earlybird, property of Hendrik Brandis, and the Portuguese Uon owned by José Manuel Caldeira. The German helm will have to work hard to win the title of "owner driver" that he achieved last year, because now the Lisbon owner is walking in his footsteps.
The next date for the class will be the World Championship, event that will be held in Valencia from July 6th to 12th. We expect to receive not only some American boats but also one veteran team of the European Championship who could probably confirm its attendance soon.
We'd like to thank the Yacht Club de Porquerolles, especially Aurélie Lhuillier, the Committee and the Technical team. We'd also like to thank Dominique Tian, Glen Ellen's owner, for his help and for his interest in making us all feel comfortable and with the request of working together next year.
