"If you want to win the Nationals you will have to start better than that" were Delph Commodore Louis Moulden's words to Wayne Atherton and Angela Sweeney after they had just won the Miracle Northern Championships for the second year in succession. Not that Louis has ever won the Miracle Nationals but he's won enough things in an Enterprise to know what it takes.
Unable to sail the two races on the Saturday, Wayne and Angela won the event by sailing just three races on the Sunday. On Saturday, it was fairly windy but the conditions were manageable with Jon Aldhous crewed by son Phil and Simon Reddecliffe sailing with Mark Atherton sharing the honours.
On Sunday, the wind was a similar strength to Saturday but the gusts were harder to cope with. Wayne and Angela pretty much dominated the racing to take first overall. However, there was some very competitive sailing for the next three places between Jon and Phil, Simon and Mark and Ashley Southwell sailing with his brother Ross.
At the end we even had the trophy to present to Wayne and Angela in front of Wayne's mum and dad, so that was nice.
My thanks to everyone at Delph Sailing Club for helping run the event and Bank Top Brewery for sponsoring the event.
