Colin Jex from Arnside, Lancashire and James Rainsford from Dartmouth, Devon have been crowned the April winners in the RYA ilovesailing Calendar competition, securing themselves a spot on the 2015 calendar.
James's entry was taken off Dartmouth, Devon, during a classic yacht race back in July 2009. James commented: "I was aboard the Royal Dart Yacht Club's launch, assisting with marshalling of the event and captured this shot. The image also shows a row of coastguard cottages ashore.
"I'm absolutely delighted that one of my photographs of the event has been selected for inclusion in the 2015 RYA ilovesailing calendar."
While Colin's photo was taken last June and is of the occasional anchorage at 'Eilach an Naoimh' in the Garvellochs, West coast Scotland. Colin explained: "The Island is the site of a ruined monastery founded in AD542 by St. Brendan, and later used by St. Columba for its peace and seclusion. There are also beehive cells and a ruined chapel on the island. It is a good temporary anchorage in settled weather as a waiting point for a transit of the Corryvreckan. The island on the horizon is Jura, with the famous Paps at the south end with their attendant cloud formation."
When asked who he felt to be a winner Colin added: "I am thrilled to have won an entry in the RYA ilovesailing calendar. I love sailing with a camera, especially on the West coast of Scotland, so I am very pleased to be able to share a memory of a beautiful time and place with other yachtsmen."
Once again the choice and standard of entries was fantastic and choosing just two from amongst the 33 submitted for April was tricky work for the judges. You can view all the entries on the ilovesailing Facebook page www.facebook.com/ryailovesailing
As well as a spot on the 2015 calendar, which will be launched at the PSP Southampton Boat Show in September and available to purchase at the show and via the RYA webshop, Colin and James also win two tickets to the PSP Southampton Boat Show, a canvas print of their winning photo and other goodies and of course their very own 2014, red, ilovesailing duck; a prized possession amongst ilovesailing fans!
The ilovesailing calendar competition runs from March through to August 2013, with two photo winners being picked each month to appear on the 2015 calendar.
"We now have four of the 12 slots secured for the 2015 calendar but we are still asking people to post their favourite sailing pictures to the Facebook page as we will be picking another two winners at the end of May", commented ilovesailing co-ordinator Emma Slater.
