Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta - Prize Giving

by Louay Habib 23 Apr 2014 20:49 BST 17-22 April 2014

Afternoon Gig Racing with a Cream Tea Party at the Admiral's Inn, Nelson's Dockyard is the traditional way of providing a serene yet competitive occasion to bring the regatta to a conclusion. Cakes, scones, delicious savouries and sandwiches were provided by Food from Paradise and the Classic family.

After a pleasant day in Nelson's Dockyard, hundreds of competitors, family and friends, gathered on the lawn at The Copper & Lumber Store for the Prize Giving Ceremony. Honoured guests included Claude Anthony, Chairman of the National Parks Authority. Yameek Ashkenazi representing Panerai and Nigel Josiah representing Mount Gay. The glittering array of prizes were on stage and Chairman of the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta, Julian Gildersleeve announced the winners and gave a special mention to the crew of Flying Buzzard who acted as the Committee Boat for the regatta.

The Panerai Trophy and Panerai Timepiece for the Best Total Corrected Time was won by Ralph Isham's American Bruce King, 105′ ketch Whitehawk.

The Mount Gay Trophy, awarded for the winner of the most competitive class was won Stuart Simpson's British Sean McMillan 76, Nazgull of Fordell.

The evening closed with a huge round of applause for the dearly departed Kenny Coombs, the Father of Classics. Antigua Classic Regatta will take place 16-21 April 2015. The party will go on!
