The countdown has begun for Ullswater Yacht Club's first event of the year in its new-look Open Events programme for 2014.
The new Ullswater Skiff weekend on April 26 and 27 will feature class starts for 49ers/49fx, 29ers, RS800 and Musto Skiffs.
A minimum of six windward/leeward races are planned over the two days with water-based starts. If time and conditions permit, organisers will run up to four races per day.
As well as a comprehensive racing programme on the water, there's plenty going on back at the club as well. Catering and entertainment includes:
- Friday night, fish & chips from 6pm to 8.30pm for £6.95 and bar open to 11pm.
- Saturday morning, breakfast from 8.30am and then food throughout the day from the galley until 5pm.
- Saturday evening, chilli, lasagne or veggie option plus range of salads, garlic bread and desert from 6:30pm to 8pm for £7,95
- Saturday entertainment with Big D from 7.30pm and bar open to 11pm.
Improved camping and campervan facilities are available from the Friday night in the 'Birkett' field next to the club site.
Event co-ordinator and club 49er helm Matty Lyons said: "All the skiff sailors at the club are delighted to invite our fellow skiff sailors to Ullswater. The lake is the ideal venue for asymmetric courses. You just can't beat a downwind leg amid the amazing scenery of the Lake District's most beautiful lake."
The entry form and notice of race is on the UYC website, www.ullswateryachtclub.org. Competitors can enter online using SailRacer.
UYC is on the North-east shore of the lake about two miles from Pooley Bridge on the Howtown road. For more information about the Skiff event, ring 01768 486333, email
