RS Tera sailors in the North of England are getting ready for a packed season of sailing, with the promise of a summer filled with some great events.
Over the winter months a range of coaching events have been held, providing the Northern Squad with a chance to practice heavy weather sailing skills under the expert tuition of coaches Brett Cokayne and Bernard Clark. The fleet were very grateful to Derwent Reservoir SC for making their facilities available for the coaching sessions. The final coaching session was held at Northampton SC in March and now the fleet look forward to getting out on the water to put their skills into practice.
The Northern Tera Travellers Series kicks off on 3 and 4 May with the Northern Championships being hosted by Leigh and Lowton SC. Then it's on to Ripon SC on 17 and 18 May, Derwent Reservoir SC on 14 and 15 June and South Windermere SC for the final event on 12 July. Last year nearly 70 helms took part in the series and we hope to exceed that this year. In addition to the class traveller events helms will also be taking part in the North East Youth Travellers Series and Yorkshire and Humberside Schools Sailing Association events and enjoying the chance to compete against a wide range of other craft.
Further afield there's the chance to take part in the UK RS Tera Start of Season Championships in late April, the Tera Europeans in Holland in late May, the Inland Championships at Draycote Water SC in late June and the National Championships – this year being sailed in the region, at Derwent Reservoir SC – at the end of August. A packed programme which promises to showcase some very talented sailors skills and abilities and to provide great fun for all who take part.
