Royal Findhorn Yacht Club hosted the official launch of two new RS Tera sailing dinghies this weekend. The boats were purchased through generous sponsorship from Macduff Shipyards and Macduff Ship design.
The boats were christened by Elaine Watt, wife of John Watt Managing Director of Macduff Shipyards and Fiona Cameron, wife of Donald Cameron ex Managing Director of Macduff Ship Design. They were joined by Ian Ellis who has taken over as Managing Director at Macduff Ship Design following Mr Cameron's retirement earlier this month. Also present were Garry Rendall, Commodore of RFYC, Beverley Ellis, Rear Commodore in charge of training at RFYC and keen sailing youngsters William and Peter who cannot wait to give the boats a thorough test during the coming months.
The sponsorship follows on from a previous sponsorship of training bouys/marks which were purchased last year to assist with club training.
The new boats will add to the clubs existing training fleet and will enable RFYC to provide training in suitable boats to a wider range of people. They are particularly suitable for training younger children. With the increase in interest within Scotland in this class of boat it provides RFYC with an ideal training aid as both an introduction to sailing and to enable club members to progress their sailing experience. It will encourage young sailors to take part in some of the Scotland wide coaching circuit which will include a stopover in Findhorn during the summer holidays.
After the christening Garry Rendall thanked the sponsors for their continued generous support of the club with particular emphasis on training for both young and old and invited them to an informal lunch at the Piers café – which is run by Royal Findhorn Yacht Clubs Catering staff but is open as a public café during the day.
