Dublin annual Colours Sailing Match - Preview

by Conor Murphy 29 Mar 2014 10:41 GMT 12 April 2014

On Saturday 12th April, the annual Colours sailing match will be held in Dublin, on the River Liffey. Colours has always been a highly anticipated event on the college sailing calendar.

This year it will take place on the Liffey, in front of the MV Cill Airne beside the Samuel Beckett Bridge. The event kicks off at 10am, and will see University College Dublin (UCD) and Trinity College (TCD) battle it out for the Colours trophy.

All teams from each college will race each other, however it is the races between UCD's and Trinity's first teams that will crown the Colours Champions of 2014. UCD are fresh from their Varsities win and will be eager to consolidate that victory with another. Trinity will be keen to win their first Colours title since 2009. The Colours match marks the end of the college sailing circuit for the academic year.

Racing will commence at 10 a.m., after the East Link Bridge is lifted especially for the boats to pass through at 9.30 a.m. 12 Firefly dinghies will be racing during the day. Spectating will be possible from the MV Cill Airne, where the bar and restaurant will be open, or from the North and South Quays at that point of the Liffey.

A reception for media and sponsors will be held at 1.30pm onboard the MV Cill Airne, where refreshments will be served. Sailors will be available for interview and photos, and the finals should be taking place around this time. Whether you are a sailing enthusiast or just want to watch two college rivals go head to head, these races are not to be missed.
