Mark Lamble appointed Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust Scottish Fundraiser

by Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust 15 Mar 2014 16:49 GMT 15 March 2014

Following on from the launch of their Scottish hub in Largs last year, The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust is proud to announce Mark Lamble as their newly appointed Manager and Fundraiser for Scotland.

The extension of the Trusts operational base in the Isle of Wight to include the new hub in Largs Scotland, makes the charities services more accessible to young people living with cancer in Scotland. Thanks to £125,000 of funding from players of People's Postcode Lottery, the expansion of their operation comes as part of a three-year plan to double the number of young people in recovery from cancer taken sailing

Mark, who has worked with the Trust since 2005, brings a wealth of knowledge to the new project; having skippered on the Trusts four day yacht trips since 2010, he has also played a key role in the set up and development of the new Scottish base in Largs.

Looking forward to a new challenge Mark said "Having worked as a Trust skipper over the years I have seen first hand the positive impact getting out on the water has in building the confidence of young people. To be part of the development of the Trusts reach in Scotland and the North of England is an exciting opportunity and I can't wait to get started."

The expansion of the Trusts operations marks the start of further long-term support from players of People's Postcode Lottery that will see the Trust receive an amazing £1 million over the next ten years. People's Postcode Lottery is a charity lottery raising funds for, and increasing awareness of, charities and good causes. As 50p from every £2 ticket is awarded to charities and good causes, players of People's Postcode Lottery have raised over £36.9 million to date, which is distributed to beneficiaries.

Launched in 2003 the aim of the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust is to give young people aged between 8-24 in recovery from cancer the chance to rebuild their confidence through sailing. What makes the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust unique is, after the initial four-day sailing trip, each young person is invited to get involved in a variety of different activities up to and beyond remission. Additional trips for 2014 include a Scottish over 18 return to sail longer cruising trip, Scottish under 18 first time trip and two over 18 Scottish first time trips.

As the Trust receives no government funding and does not charge fees, they therefore rely 100% on voluntary funding. There are many ways to support The Trust with time, money or services.
