Hayling Island Sailing Club has announced its club racing programme for 2014 which kicks off this month and includes a number of new formats for 2014 as well as the regular club races and open events for keen dinghy racing sailors.

The Club offers a very high standard of dinghy racing spread over 9 months of the year for a wide variety of classes. The location of HISC enables the club to offer a mix of sailing areas both inside and outside of Chichester Harbour with varied and interesting race formats together with the full backup of the HISC safety support teams.

Highlights of the HISC club racing programme for 2014 are:

  • Four main Sunday series each run over a two-monthly period
  • Monthly Pennant race weekends of open meeting standard with accompanying social events
  • Monthly Saturday "Sprint" racing - new for 2014 with multiple short races for up to 5 classes on separate courses
  • 8 open charity pursuit races through the year – count your best 4 for an overall result
  • Saturdays – other than Sprint Saturdays - all classes average lap handicap race for prizes on the day
  • Full Wednesday evening programme from April to August
The new 'Sprint' Saturday series will offer the best of this very popular style of racing – 5 or 6 short, sharp, races in a relatively informal format, held over high tide. A number of the club fleets including Solos, RS200s and Flying Fifteens have already booked their slots for Saturday Sprint events which will run from April to October; full details on the HISC website www.hisc.co.uk.

Racing at the club kicks off with the Opening Handicap Race on Sunday 16th March 2014, which is a Trophy race for all club classes together. Although the club programme is for members only, please note all the Pursuit races, including the established and popular Glyn Charles Pursuit in May are open to visitors. Keen racers interested in joining HISC are welcome to come and sample the racing for a weekend – contact the HISC office for details 02392 463768.

The popular classes raced at HISC include Solo, RS200, Flying Fifteen, Merlin Rocket, RS700, International Moth, 29er, Fireball, RS100, RS800, Tasar, and all Laser variants. Junior classes include RSTera, RSFeva, Optimist and Topper.

HISC Flag Officer, Nick Peters, commented; "We have a truly exciting club racing programme for 2014, with our best ever mix of events and racing, adding to the great club community and atmosphere. We are committed to providing the best racing and are very keen to welcome new dinghy racers as members."
