The Royal Dutch Yachting Union has learned of the death of Conny van Rietschoten. At the age of 87 years, Conny van Rietschoten passed away on 17th December 2013 at his residence in Portugal. Conny van Rietschoten had been struggling with poor health for some time.

Conny van Rietschoten is one of the greatest sailing legends in Dutch history. He won the Whitbread Round the World Race twice, in 1978 and 1982, ensuring that the Netherlands became one of the more prominent nations in ocean sailing.
