Bolton Sailing Club were the hosts of the last of the series of the RYA North West Junior Traveller Trophy 2013 on Saturday 19th October. Foggy conditions greeted the large turn out and fortunately it cleared in time for a brilliant days competition, followed by the series prize giving.

The series attracted over 120 youngsters in three categories; youth, junior and Optimist and took competitors to ten locations across the North West from Bassenthwaite SC in the Lake District to Winsford SC in Cheshire, with five results needed to qualify.

In the Youth class Oliver Davenport from Redesmere SC won convincingly with six firsts and one second. Zac Gibbons, also from Redesmere SC was second and Gareth Staples Jones from Leigh and Lowton SC came third. All were sailing Laser Radials.

The Optimist class was closely fought with Olivia Cuthbert from Leigh and Lowton SC just coming first, Drew Gibbons from Redesmere SC second and Harvey Leigh from Leigh and Lowton SC third.

The largest class in the competition is the Junior class with 69 entries in over ten classes. Ben and Gabe Hill from West Lancs YC in a Mirror again dominated the competition, winning the competition for the second year and first double hander for the third year. Sam Cooper from West Lancs YC in a Topper came second overall and first under 14 with Will Rushforth from Chester SCC in a Laser Radial came third. West Lancs YC won the prize for best club.

The series prize giving was again generously sponsored by First Mark Chandlery. They also gave to the prize draw where each sailor gets an entry for every time they compete away from their home club.

The 2014 series starts on 12th April at Winsford Flash SC.
