Crewsaver 2000 Millennium Series at Rutland Sailing Club

by James Macgregor 21 Oct 2013 17:19 BST 19-20 October 2013

The 2000 fleet gathered from afar at Rutland Sailing Club on Saturday morning. The forecast was good for the weekend with a wide range of wind strengths forecast and 18 boats made the trip. With a healthy local fleet of boats, this made for good racing all through the fleet for the weekend.

The rain cleared on Saturday morning by the time people started rigging and racing got underway in good time. The first race was won by Jasper and Laura Barnham, with Jasper’s Endeavour crew Graham Sexton and crew Kristina Sexton coming in second.

The second race was won by Rob and Katie Burridge in their new LDC 2000, and the Barnhams then won race three. Unfortunately, the Barnhams could not sail on Sunday so they packed up on Saturday night and headed back to Snetisham.

Sunday morning saw considerably more wind and it soon became clear that it would be a very different day. Rob and Katie Burridge showed everyone the way to sail in strong conditions with an outstanding performance, winning all three races on Sunday to win the event overall.

Rob said afterwards, “LDC have created a fantastic boat, and my crew was outstanding on every tack and gybe. The combination makes helming much easier.”

Second place went to Graham and Kristina Sexton with third going to the Carsington team of Richard Harvey and Mick Steer.

Thanks to everyone at Rutland for their hospitality and especially to Race Officer David Wilkins for doing an excellent job on the committee boat again.

Thanks also to our sponsors, Crewsaver.
