The naming ceremony for a 4.8m Ribcraft rib very kindly donated by Lymingon Yacht Haven to the Royal Lymington Yacht Club Wednesday Junior Sailing program took place recently during the final Wednesday Junior sailing session.
The rib, named "Haven Challenger", is being used to train youngsters to drive ribs safely from age 8 as part of Wednesday Junior Sailing, and has also been used by the more experienced young power boaters to train for the RYA Honda Youth Rib Championship.
The rib was officially handed over by Mr Rupert Wagstaff, Director of Yacht Haven Group to James Eady and William Hancock, both of whom had taken part in the Rib Championship program at Lymington, with William going through to become National champion in the 8 -12 age group held at the Southampton Boat Show.
Speaking after the handover, William commented, "training in this rib enabled me to become a National Champion, and I am very grateful for the opportunity".
James Eady commented 'it is a great rib to drive with amazing grip and acceleration, and has made a huge difference to our skill level being able to practice in it, as it's identical to the rib we used in the RYA competition".
