Tornado Open and Mixed World Championships at Ibiza - Preview

It's now just one month until the Tornado Class sailors will be hitting Ibiza for the annual Tornado Open and Mixed World Championships. The island is ready to greet the sailors and their families, there is going to be lots of action on the sailing side, but also loads to do for everyone, including a Ibicencan paella night, a barbecue night, concerts, a special day for the kids and every afternoon after the racing a relaxing drink in the chill out area enjoying the famous sunset.

The event is being held in the village of Santa Eulària des Riu on the Eastern side of the island, between the 28th September and 5th October with a full weeks schedule. Already there are 34 boats registered and the Tornado Class are expecting between 40 and 45 entrants in total.

The event will begin on Saturday night with a rock concert from the local band "Pota Lait" where all the sailors will enjoy a great concert. The opening ceremony and practice races will be held on the 29th September with the World Championships starting on 30th September.

There's bound to be a fight at the front of the fleet with many teams already dominating in Europe over the summer and that's without mentioning the teams travelling in from Australia and other areas of the World for the event. We don't want to forget the Ibicencan team who are training 4 hours a day in the lead up to the event, they could be the secret underdogs!

Ullman Sails' Pablo Soldano will also be available for the first few days to provide coaching sessions to those sailors who are using the new One Design Sails which were voted in at the beginning of the year.

With plenty of local sponsors onboard including the great chill out/restaurant Blue Marlin Ibiza, the Town Council of Santa Eulalia, Viva con Agua Spain, Puerto Deportivo Santa Eulalia, Baleria Ferries, Beer Estrella Damm, Cider el Gaitero, Princess Yachts Ibiza, Invisa Hotels, Ferries Crucero Santa Eulalia, Ibicencan spirits Marí Mayans, Marine Service, Veneziani Yacht paints, it's going to be a great event for the sailors and their families also attending.

It's not too late to enter if you're interested in attending, there's a 20% discount on the Baleria Ferry from Barcelona and registration is open until the event starts.
