Cadet National Championships at South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club Day 1

by Andy Shorrock 28 Aug 2013 07:17 BST 26-31 August 2013

The Cadet fleet of nearly 70 boats arrived at Abersoch for day 1 of the National Championship to be greeted by a light and fitful breeze.

A two hour postponement was enjoyed in the sunshine before the breeze filled in for 2 full races to be held in winds that started at 6/7 knots and increased to 12/13 knots.

There is keen competition in this junior racing fleet, with many competitors having recently competed at the World Championships in Belgium. The international visitors from The Netherlands and Belgium add to the competition and interest of the championship.

The day belonged to the Belgian entry of Seppe Greeve and Cedric Boven who showed excellent speed in the conditions to record two 1st place finishes. The popular UK team of Lucy and Cally Terkelsen from Stone SC pulled themselves from the pack in both races to score 3,2 followed overall by Alex Warrington and Ellie Wootton from Thorpe Bay who recorded two x 4th place finishes. Meanwhiile the Bronze fleet, which supports the more novice sailors with on the water coaching, was led by the Allen family from Fishers Green.
