A great Ramsgate Week for Hyde Sails Kent

Royal Temple Yacht Club put on a great event as usual, with the 2013 Ramsgate Week providing plenty of competitive and enjoyable racing. Members of the Hyde Sails Kent team were competing on two different boats at Ramsgate Week; Frank Martin's Dynamic 37 "Surprise" and Pete Pearson / Mike Lilwall's Elan 333 "Buccaneer". Both boats used their Hyde sails to good effect. In the early part of the week "Surprise" dominated Class 2 and took the series with ease. The second part of the week saw the addition of several more hot teams in Class 2 and the series was tightly contested, but "Buccaneer" pulled through in the last race to take the series win by just one point
On the Thursday the traditional Round the Goodwins race was held and Class 2 was again dominated by a Hyde-powered boat. This time it was the J/92 of Richard Sparrow who romped home first in class, just missing out on the overall race win by a couple of minutes from the mighty Class 1 Oystercatcher XXX of Richard Mathews.
The "Buccaneer" crew sailed well to finish second in class and that stood them in good stead for the highlight of the week - The Gold Cup (which they won last year). This year's race was a breezy affair and despite it being a Class 1 dominated race, "Buccaneer" sailed well and didn't let the trophy go without a fight – coming home with the Class 2 win and a fourth overall. A number of other boats using new Hyde sails came through with some great performance during the week, including race wins for Rod Oates J105 "Slingshot" and Mark Wrightson/Trevor Drury's First 25 "Eroica".
As well as supplying new sails and racing the week the Hyde Sails team also spent many hours late into the night repairing the fleets sails to get them back on the water for the next day's racing.
