This event the sixth in the 2013 Midland Area Double Chine series sponsored by Speed Sails was held at Midland SC on Sunday 9th June.

A warm sunny day with a light to moderate North Easterly wind gave excellent sailing conditions, for the six boat fleet which included two visitors from Ulley SC and Sutton SC.

The first race saw Richard Adams crewed by Julie Moore (Midland SC) get away and round the first windward mark, just ahead of Paul Young crewed by Iain Leiper (Midland SC) with Matt Velamail crewed by Tim Brownell (Ulley SC) close behind. These positions remained the same until the end of the first lap when Matt and Tim moved up to second after snatching an inside position at the leeward mark to pass Paul and Iain.

On a following lap Chris Winters and Tim Harms (Midland SC) made best use of the conditions to overtake Paul and Iain on the beat and gain third place. Despite several further battles this race finished in this order.

The second race started on a new course after an excellent lunch. A heavily biased port start line saw Richard and Julie make an excellent start from the pin end however it was Matt and Tim who rounded the windward mark first with Richard and Julie second and Paul and Iain third.

Places were exchanged several times until the second lap when Richard and Julie took full advantage of a wind shift to take the lead which they held to the finish. Matt and Tim remained second until the final beat when Paul and Iain passed them near the finish line to snatch second place. Matt and Tim were third and Chris and Tim fourth.

With the overall winner now decided the third race would decide the other places which were wide open. Sailed back to back with the second race on the same course this race saw a good start being made by all boats. Chris and Tim sailing the oldest boat, however made the best start and took the lead rounding the windward mark first and remaining first for most of the first lap. Richard and Julie passed Chris and Tim on following beat to take the lead which they then held to the finish.

Behind Chris and Tim and Paul and Iain battled constantly for second place. On the final lap Matt and Tim joined in as well and made the final beat to the finish line very exciting with any of these boats able to take second place overall. Paul and Iain held their nerve to finish second in both this race and overall, with Chris and Tim finishing third in a very close finish just ahead of Matt and Tim.

Thanks to Midland SC for a good days racing.
