The Victory Class, Portsmouth's competitive, one-design fleet, reports back after a busy start to the season. With two full series and a multi-race Saturday now complete the competition is as tight as ever, wherever you race in the fleet.
The wooden boats are proving at least as quick as their newer GRP sisters highlighting that it's not the size of your wallet, or age of your boat, but the ability of the helm and crew that really matter.
The class' Facebook page has also been a big hit with members of all ages and is proving popular for those looking to keep up to date with race results, reports and social events.
Even though the class is in its 79th year the development continues with a small change to the mainsail, carbon fibre spinnaker poles and live GPS tracking being tested this season.
Maxine Reeves, Class Captain, commented:
"Even though the exceptionally cold weather at the start of the season provided a challenge to getting boats ready I'm delighted to see that we have maintained a good turnout and close racing. With the season now in full swing, thoughts are already turning to Cowes Week and the highlight of our season."
