Oryx Quest update on television this week

by Harriet Prest 24 Mar 2005 08:25 GMT

With two entries still battling for the one-million US dollar prize in the Oryx Quest, this round the world race has become a war of attrition – can both boats survive this gruelling course? With the lead boat presently on collision course with a tropical storm, the result could go right down to the wire. The storm goes by the name of cyclone Hennie and it is gathering momentum around the island of Mauritius – an actual turning mark in the Oryx Quest course. With Doha 2006 already slowed by a high pressure system, could this be the chance British skipper Tony Bullimore and his team on Daedalus have been waiting for? Could the analogy of the Tortoise and the Hare become more than just a children’s fable?

This week’s APP-Broadcast programme covers the possibilities for both boats and we track with both Doha 2006 as she rounds the Cape of Good Hope and with Daedalus in the South Atlantic. Always the race favourite, Doha 2006 is often referred to as ‘The Dream Team’ and with a crew list including names such as Brian Thompson, Jacques Vincent and Karine Fauconnier, it is not hard to explain why. Plus, we go in search for the real story behind infamous character, ‘the bulldog’ Tony Bullimore.
