Enterprise Midland Series at Rugby & Daventry Sailing Club

by Laurence Davies on 22 Mar 2005 20 March 2005

The Speed Sails sponsored Enterprise Midland Area series, the Double Chine, got underway at Rugby and Daventry S.C. on Sunday 20th March, 2005.

A variable force 2 south easterly wind blew throughout the day for eleven competitors. Despite some notable absentees, the racing was close and high quality, with some excellent boat handling, shrewd tactical manoeuvring and a good turn of speed.

Ant Clay and James Holmes of Soul Sailor R.A. led for the first half of the first race but were caught on a tricky offwind leg by Martin & Laurence Davies of the home club who led to the finish, despite Ant & James snapping at their heels throughout. Mike Cossey & Christine Baron of Tamworth S.C. came a close third.

The second race was led to the first mark by Mike Cossey, followed by Martin Bottomley & Roy Ball of Emberton Park S.C. and Steve Graham & Chessie Sanders of Hollowell S.C., followed by Clay and then Davies.

Davies squeezed past Cossey to take the lead on the same downwind leg which had enabled him to catch Clay in the previous race. Cossey pursued to take second and Clay third.

The third race saw a text book port end start by Clay who rounded the first mark in the lead, held it throughout the race and won with a comfortable margin from Davies in second and Graham in third.

Overall Results:

1st Martin & Laurence Davies (Rugby & Daventry S.C.) 2pts
2nd Ant Clay & James Holmes (Soul Sailor R.A.) 3pts
3rd Mike Cossey & Christine Barron (Tamworth S.C.) 5pts
