Wanderer National Championships at Whitstable Yacht Club - Preview

by Steve Gray 13 Jul 2012 10:12 BST 21-22 July 2012

The Wanderer Nationals at Whitstable YC on 21st/22nd July coincide with the RYA Push the Boat out Day. To support our Guys and Gals at Weymouth – and to encourage people to sail Wanderers - the Nationals will have a “Going for Gold” theme, and to start that off Sail for Gold T Shirts will be worn by all!

A sail past of Wanderers, flying the Union Flag will take place at 2.00 on the 21st, joining with Whitstable yacht Clubs own ‘Push the boat out’ event...but who is going to get a bunch of Wanderers to sail in a line?

One race of the series will be designated a “Medal Race”, with an Olympic style medal ceremony (although the medals may be edible). Medals will be presented by Dave Williams, a WYC member and British Olympic Tornado sailor at the Barcelona and Atlanta Olympics.

And to make sure we don’t disgrace ourselves there will be a Race Training Day on Friday 20th July run by the WYC sailing school, “Wild Times”. Our instructors will include Wendy Fitzpatrick, who was the first ever Laser National Champion (putting some well known male noses severely out of joint).

So if you sail a Wanderer, come and join us. Full Notice of Race and entry form on the Wanderer website, www.wanderer.org.uk
