Pendennis Cup at Royal Cornwall Yacht Club - Day 4

by Christine Winans 10 Jul 2012 08:13 BST 2-7 July 2012

The Race Committee from the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club set a more complex course today. A more blustery day provided plenty of opportunity for stretching the crews and the yachts, and a nail biting finish saw close results between the lead boats.

Adela had a brilliant race today, crossing the line second just 30 seconds behind Unfurled. However it was Mariette that was crowned winner of both the St Petroc's Traditional Class and The Pendennis Cup, although credit must be given to Unfurled for consistent excellence throughout the week, crossing the finish line first in every race.

The yachts in the Little Dennis Class 3 provided classic enthusiasts great entertainment during the week, and were always closely matched. Coming into the final race it was all the play for but in the end it was Firebrand that triumphed in the Little Dennis Fleet, by a mere 3 minutes corrected time.

Following a hard fought battle the crews were finally able to relax at the end of week Awards Party. Held at the spectacular Pendennis Castle guests were welcomed with a glass of Moët & Chandon Champagne and canapés before the presentations were given. Then the real celebrations began with live music by the Martin Harley Band, complemented by Redman Whiteley Dixon's Rum Bar. Their chill-out zone proved popular throughout the night with guests enjoying the DJ on the terraced bar overlooking Falmouth Bay and St Mawes. The evening provided a fitting end to an enjoyable week of racing and entertainment.
