Welcome to our weekly section for sailors old and new alike!
Each week we will look at a different sailing term and it's meaning/origin - why? - because we can!

This week's Get Nautical is:
Timenoguy

Meaning: a rope stretched from place to place in a ship

Solo Winter Championship Results
Despite the freezing conditions, 36 Solo's took to the water for the 2012 Winter Championships at Grafham. In the extreme cold P&B sails still played their part in the Championships, with Michael Simms claiming 1st place and P&B's Ian Pinnell coming in 3rd place overall. Ian also claimed 1st place in the veteran category whlist John Webster finished in 1st as Grand Master (also using P&B sails). More race details...

P&B Solo sails are made both in Dacron and ODL04 Laminate. We construct our sails with Radial heads and bases cutting down distortion and improving the longevity and speed.

The new flat sail is aimed at sailors of 76kg (12 stone) and under, the full at 76kg and over. P&B design and manufacture our Solo sails in house. Our direct contact through sailing, design and sailmaking gives us great advantages over our rivals. Ian Pinnell was using the brand new flat design sail at the Winters!

Did you know?
Scraping the bottom of the barrel...

We tend to use the phrase to “scrape the bottom of the barrel” when we’re talking about something that really is a last resort. But did you know that the saying was originally a nautical term? Slush was the rather nasty residue that was left in a barrel of salted meat once the meat had been removed. As you can imagine, you’d have to be rather desperate to consider collecting the slush – but ships that were in financial dire straits would do just that, they’d “scrape the bottom of the barrel” because the residue could be sold to candle makers for a small sum of money.
