Noble Marine Solo Winter Champs at Grafham Water Sailing Club

Michael Simms has won the Noble Marine Solo Winter Championships at Grafham, holding off both Andy Davis and Ian Pinnell. Full report to follow.

Solo Open at Bowmoor Sailing Club

On Sunday 20th May 2012 the Bowmoor Solo open meeting was held in a light Northerly cold breeze. This gave very changeable wind direction and strength and gave rise to lots of position changes in the middle and the back of the fleet.

Solo Eastern Series at Hunts Sailing Club

The morning was cool, overcast and almost still. Fourteen visiting helms and nine HSC members took part. Fortified by bacon butties and a terse, clear briefing from race officer Richard Major the fleet started in three knots shifting about westerly.

Solo Northern Travellers at West Riding Sailing Club

24 Solos at West Riding SC’s Solo Northern Travellers event were not disappointed. The forecast of 13 knots with gusts of 30 as the day progressed held true, although the stronger winds came through earlier than expected.

25 helms gathered for the Fishers Green SC Solo Open on 13th May. The weather conditions were a sunny F2-3 from a shifty SSW increasing to F 3-4.

Solo Scottish Travellers at Prestwick Sailing Club

Big waves, 15mph breeze, and sunshine was the perfect formula for the strong fleet of 20 Solos which arrived at Prestwick for their third Scottish Traveller event of the season, on May 12th.

Solo Thames Valley Series at Burghfield Sailing Club

The BSC Solo Open on 28th April 2012 saw 9 visitors join 8 locals for the third event in the 2012 Thames Valley Solo Series. The weather throughout the week leading up to the event brought rain, hail and blustery winds with a winter feel.

Bardowie Loch held a Scottish Solos training and traveller over the weekend of 28/29th April; this popular event attracted 32 helms from all over Scotland to the Clyde Cruising Club’s Dinghy Section loch just north of Glasgow.

Solo Open at Frensham Pond Sailing Club

It was wild and windy for the 33rd Solo Open at Frensham Pond. The Pond is renowned for its shifting winds and it lived up to its reputation as the four races were held in very different conditions.

Solo Open at Ardleigh Sailing Club

A disappointing turnout of 15 Solos arrived for this year’s open, numbers no doubt impacted by the forecast of strong winds and torrential rain. Although it did rain steadily all day, the wind was a manageable 3-4, rising to 4-5.
