Leigh and Lowton Sailing Club's Open Revett Winter Series concluded this weekend on Sunday the 11th December 2011 with 99 boats having competed at some stage of the series. The forecast originally looked promising on Sunday but in the end never actually arrived resulting in a long tea drinking day with both races of the day being canned. So how did it finish in the end?

Chris Gillard romped home in the Solos followed by Steve White and Jon Walter. Two of Leigh's old boys, Brian Holt and Mike Broatch, came home in 4th and 5th respectively.

Dave Shiel eventually came out on top in the Laser fleet beating Graham Macwhirter (Scammonden Water Sailing Club) and Paul Heath. The Asymmetric fleet was dominated by the 2 RS400s of Hamish Gledhill & Simon Dowse (West Riding Sailing Club) and Dave Exley & Nigel Hall with Hamish & Simon winning in the end.

In the end the Handicap fleet was dominated by 3 RS300s with Paul Allen winning, Richard Catchpole in second and Neil Skellam in third.

After not sailing the prize giving was held. The Commodore, Cathy Partington, and Sailing Manager, Paul Allen, led the proceedings and thanked all the volunteers, members, helpers & visitors. Hamish Gledhill, on behalf of the visitors, reiterated the Commodore's words and wished everyone a safe journey home. After the prize giving the "in it to win it" raffle was drawn by The Vice Commodore, Paul Heath, who drew Neil Skellam's name out of the hat and Paul presented Neil with his 1st Mark gift voucher.

The galley as ever served fantastic hot meals throughout the day as people chatted and enjoyed the pleasurable day in the clubhouse. A date for the diary is Leigh & Lowton's New Year's Day pursuit race with the Optimist starting at 12:45pm.

Full results are available on the club website.
