Feeling under the weather...
Colloquially we use the phrase “under the weather” for someone who’s not feeling too well, often in a rather non-specific way. On board ship though, under the weather was used to describe one of the most unpopular lookout positions. This was on the bow on the windward side of the ship. Generally pretty unpleasant, in bad weather the experience was pretty miserable as the lookout would be continually soaked by the icy, harsh spray, which often did cause him to fall ill.
