Flying Fifteens at The Holy Loch ’Marine Blast’ Regatta

By Richard Jones on 18 Sep 201110-11 September 2011

The Holy Loch Marine Blast Regatta nearly fell victim to the harsh weather on the weekend of 10th and 11th September. Despite a good and building breeze out in the Firth of Clyde on the Saturday the 14 assembled boats had to deal with a virtual flat calm for 2 races in their race area a mile away in the Holy Loch. On Sunday morning there was a good 40 knots blowing with more forecast and so the decision was taken to draw proceedings to an early close.

The flukey Saturday conditions led to some erratic results but local boys John Orr and Neil Ferguson in Riff Raff managed some consistency with two 2nd places and this was enough to take the silverware. Neil Manderton on his first outing in newly acquired 516 showed great pace with 2nd overall. Not far behind son and father team Jack and Kevin Aitken in the borrowed classic Mocking Bird sailed into a respectable third overall.

This was the penultimate clash in the Scottish Travellers series. All the results can be found at www.flyingfifteenscotland.co.uk. The final event takes place at Loch Lomond over the first weekend of October, always a favourite with Clyde boats and visitors from the north of England. Don’t miss out!

Overall Results:

1st Orr/Ferguson
2nd Manderton/Manderton
3rd Aitken/Aitken
