For the 3rd year running, the RNLI Lifeboat Ball was held at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy on April 16th, 2011. A colourful reception greeted the guests in the stunning indoor marquee at the WPNSA Event Hall.
Guests were entertained by one of the best bands in the South-West, Bertie’s Big Band and the musical entertainment soon had everyone up and dancing. Two raffles were held: a top of the range raffle with prizes including two pairs of VIP tickets for the fantastic West End production of Mamma Mia, two nights free berthing at a Dean & Reddyhoff Marina and a large bottle of wine. In addition, Pusser’s Rum was the ‘booze’ raffle to which Pusser’s had generously donated 18 bottles of rum!
John Tweed, Chief Executive at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, commented, “It’s great that it again proved to be so enormously successful. The RNLI is a fantastic cause and we are glad that we can assist these fundraising efforts through the use of our facilities. We are looking forward to hosting it again many times in the future.”
The Weymouth Branch Events Group from the RNLI are thrilled with the support they received for the event from all the sponsors and the generosity of the guests throughout the evening. The group are also pleased with the feedback they have received from attendees saying they thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
The evening raised over £2,000 for the RNLI.
