For the penultimate day of racing at the SL 16 Open World Championship organized by the Carnac YC, competitors have had once again perfect weather conditions. Start was given around 12.30 in a 8 to 10 knots wind and under a shiny sun for four races run in a steady rhythm.
From race n°1, tension is present, as can be seen with three teams making an early start. British team Ruppert White and Nikki Boniface (GBR 945) feel comfortable and win the race followed by the Planson brothers (FRA 990) and by Simon Michaelson and Vincent Guého (DEN 959).
The second race is led by the Americains Stephen and Geoffrey Nelson (USA 967) but unfortunately, they chose the wrong option and are caught up by the rest of the fleet. They finish 6th, far behind Patrick and Benedict Harrison (GBR 984) who unexpectedly win this race. The podium of this race is rather unexpected because behind the British team, we find Thomas Couppey and Loan Breard (FRA 834) and Alice and Christian Mocquery (FRA 989). The Mocquery father and daughter really deserve this place after a painful week with capsizing and several races where they retired.
Such as yesterday, conditions began to change at the start of the third race, the wind increased up to 14 knots. These changes urged the committee to change the course and to put a gate upwind. This gate has caused quite a few spicy exchanges between competitors… What a race may bring, a race may take away and son and father, Tristan and Ronan Trebaol (FRA 645) win the third race. Great-Britain wins a few more points with White and Boniface who end second, followed by Audrey Ogereau and Christopher Artus (FRA 935). The day was a good one for the British team since they win the last race of the day. They are followed by Michaelsen and Guého, and by the Trebaol family.
Vincent Domand and Titouan Fafournoux (FRA 956) take the lead of the provisional ranking in front of Romain Bellet and Manon Audinet (FRA 857). They take advantage of the failure of Sainson and Dutreux who move back to the 5th place in the ranking. Thanks to their excellent racing, White and Boniface are on the third step of the provisional podium. The first Carnac team is still Loïs Berrehar and Emmanuel de Colombel, in 15th position.
