Sailors get a taste of Ovington’s High Performance range at Calshot Sailing Club
The 29er, Solution, B14 and CII-Byte made a big splash in big breeze at the Calshot Sailing Club, 35 kids and adults rotated through the fleet on fast-paced “trial sails”.
A host of eager sailors – young and old – took turns rocketing around on the 29er, for what was no doubt “the ride of their life!” Many of the parents are now reporting that 29ers are “the only topic of conversation”. All the young sailors that tried the 29er showed 100% determination and enthusiasm in the face of quite challenging conditions (gusting 25 knots!).
Once the Solution launched, it barely touched shore until the necessity of low-water ended the sailing session. Many of the sailors initially drawn to the skiffs, were taken by surprise at how “exhilarating” it was. Sailors found it “lively to sail” and even their favourite of the fleet.
Phil Eltringham of the B14 Class facilitated exciting rides to and from the beach, proving that the B14 might be one of the fastest ways to get to Cowes.
Calshot Sailing Club has 5 resident Bytes, and one was rigged up and on the water for most of the day, proving to be an excellent ride for all sizes in the strong winds, and manageable to self-launch from the shore.
The sailing was a great success, and made so by the cooperative efforts of the Calshot Sailing Club who organised an excellent safety boat rotation – and warm post sailing tea!
